The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award winnings to the MVT, which operates to preserve the UK's grassroots concert spaces.

The star was presented with the cheque on mid-October as his third album People Watching was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role small stages played in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the shows I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to support the industry, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, collecting over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation supported locations that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from flooding, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in modernizing facilities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The idea that revenue from concerts in big venues supports the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

The musician is among several artists to donate his honor funds to worthy causes.

When Pulp earned the trophy in 1996 for their release the album, vocalist Cocker announced that the act would contribute their prize money to the organization War Child.

That year, musician Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across several good causes, including the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

In recent years, they gave their winnings to the community center that nurtured their act, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People gave their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Winning was quite enough," said artist Heather Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our success affected another person's life."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had saved several small stages in that region, by bringing them into public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in the city were purchased under the public acquisition program, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
