Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the track edges before spinning across the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner approaching the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
